We thought of going out somewhere, last Sunday, as dad was kind of free for a change. I was keen on going to some mall or shopping area, obviously so that I could buy new clothes :).....but everyone seemed to dislike the idea... So we finally decided to go on a long drive n discover the various areas of Delhi which we had never seen before! We went straight to the Gurgaon area( as dadaji had not been there). On our way, we came across this
religious place called shiv murti, situated somewhere near the WestEnd farm houses, located on NH-8, near Rangpuri. All that we could see from the car was a huge statue of Lord shiva. The place was quite crowded. As we entered the temple-complex, we saw the gigantic statue. It was too good to be true!! It was amazingly beautiful!!....to compliment it, was the awesome
lighting that we could see clearly as it had already become dark by then. I was so so overwhelmed by the sight of the beautiful statue of Lord shiva.....that I completely forgot about my shopping!!.....The golden lighting in the dark background seemed to create a mystifying aura around the gigantic idol. The trail of water coming out from the jata of the idol and falling down constantly, adds more magic to the beauty of the place. There is a tiny place containing the shiva linga..where people can go and offer flowers and prayers. We went there and took pradikshinas around it. It felt really good! An equally big statue of Lord krishna and radha is being constructed on the right hand side of the statue, and a statue of Shiva-Parvati is being created on the left too. According to the local people, the work is supposed to get completed within 2 months. We also got to know that the 'Mangal Mahadev shiva statue', as it is popularly known, was inaugurated by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Shri Karan Singh on 10th March 1994. Going back to its history, Spread over an area of 5 acres of land, it was constructed by Shri B.K. Birla. The 62 1/2 feet tall statue of shiva is made of iron, cement and concrete and is raised on a platform 20 feet from the ground. Nearly 3000 visitors come here daily including VVIPs and foreign dignitaries. Main functions are held here during the festival of Maha Shiv Ratri and during the kavad days in the month of shravan.In all, it was a magical experience for us, much better than clothes and jewelery! :).......The beautiful evening got over with a sumptuous meal from Subway....n what's more?! The subway guy gave me two choco-chip cookies for free, just because I had mentioned it to dad while placing the order! :)
